‘The Social Network’

I’m not much of a fan of Facebook... I know that may shock a lot of people out there, but I just don’t get what the hype is all about. When Facebook first became popular, just like everyone else I created an account, added friends, posted pictures, wrote on friends’ walls and got hooked. However, I later realized how much of a waste of time it was. How so many people used it in wrong ways and it was merely an advanced method of gossip! So I later removed all my pictures and deleted the account. I’ve been without a Facebook account for over 5 years now.

Just the other day, I watched ‘The Social Network’. It was interesting to see how Facebook came to life and I realized how it was developed to get guys to meet girls and gossip; exactly why I deleted my account. Also, during the past years I’ve learned how the government uses all the information posted on people’s accounts to learn their behaviors and actions. Companies have used these advancements in technologies in their hiring process. A mistake on Facebook could cost someone their job.

Why would I voluntarily offer the government and other people personal and intimate information to use against me in any way?

We are now in the year 2011. So many people are in disbelief when they realize I don’t believe in Facebook. They try to convince me; but to this day still, no one has been able to.

With all that said; since we are in the year 2011, and since I am a computer literate person with a CS degree and a passion for technology, I have decided to give Facebook another try.  I’ve been hearing about all the advancements and changes Facebook has made since I last had an account.
This time; maybe, just maybe, I’ll finally understand what so many people are raving about and why Facebook is so popular.

Above all, Facebook is the reason behind the Egyptian Revolution! That alone is a good enough reason for me to become a Facebook user and be a part of a great generation that helped make History J
Finally, a great motive for me to finally become a Facebook advocate… J
